In Browser Fight, Microsoft's Silver Lining Gets Bigger (CNET)
When Microsoft starts pointing to statistics that don't make it look so great, you can expect the company has a strong turnaround plan in place. Today's example: its share of browser usage. Microsoft, while still the top browser maker, saw Internet Explorer slide as a fraction of worldwide usage from 57.1 percent in December 2010 to 56.0 percent in January 2011, according to the newest statistics from analytics firm Net Applications released today. That decline continues a years-long trend for the company, which first lost share to Mozilla's Firefox but now is losing it primarily to Google's Chrome and Apple's Safari.

Understanding Windows Azure (SYS-CON)
To understand Windows Azure and the Azure Services Platform, it's necessary to understand how the Microsoft Datacenters work. This article provides an overview of how Microsoft Designs their datacenters and why the Generation 4 Datacenters are so revolutionary.

What Microsoft Didn't Say About the Latest Windows Zero Day Flaw (InfoWorld)
Microsoft's Security Advisory 2501696 warns about a zero-day security breach in "all supported versions of Microsoft Windows." The affected software, per Microsoft's advisory, includes XP SP3, Vista, 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, and Windows Server 2003 SP2 and 2008 SP2. But Microsoft fails to mention that only IE users -- including users of the latest IE 9 beta -- are vulnerable.

Why Microsoft's New Windows Phone 7 was Beat by its Old Windows Mobile (ITWorld)
When you launch a completely new mobile platform that you've built from the ground up, eschewing anything that's come before from every company (including your own), it's natural not to expect to dominate the market. If you believed you would, then you and your employees should probably invest in bulk supplies of certain psychopharmaceuticals.

Microsoft Acknowledges Yahoo! Mail on WP7 Can Lead to High Data Consumption (ZDNet)
Earlier in April we heard reports of high data consumption on some Windows Phone 7 devices. As I said, after using Windows Phone 7 devices since last July I have seen no abnormal data usage so thought it had to be a rogue app, either a 3rd party one or a carrier branded one. Paul Thurrott just posted that Rafael, from the Within Windows site, discovered that Yahoo! Mail was consuming an abnormal amount of data and then Microsoft just confirmed they figured this out too. They didn’t say why they did not share this with us earlier, but they are apparently working on a fix.

SP 2010: Developing for Performance Part 5 - Disposal Patterns and Tools (Tobias Zimmergren's thoughts on development)
In SharePoint 2010 (and 2007 for that matter) there's a few objects in the API's that requires your special attention in order to behave properly. As part of the series of posts on Office365 this post will look Exchange Online. Administration for all Office365 services are managed via a common site.  The default for this is https://portal.onmicrosoft.com.  When you sign in (and Office365 provides a really good update to the single sign-in client) you are shown initially the user centric view, clicking Admin will take you to the central services Administration screen.

Adding Google Analytics to Your SharePoint 2010 Site (SharePointEduTech)
There is no doubt that the built in SharePoint analytics are ok for the task, but what happens if you have a hosted SharePoint with no access to central admin and you need richer data than is provided by the built in tool? Well you can use Google analytics this is a free service which you can sign up for here www.google.com/analytics but how do you add this to SharePoint?

SPTechCon San Francisco 2011 Preview (The Bamboo Team Blog)
This year's San Francisco edition of SPTechCon kicks off a week from today, and I, for one, am pleased that there are no blizzards in the forecast.  Which is to say that, unlike last year, I'm looking forward to actually getting to fly out of D.C. to attend (and cover) my first-ever SPTechCon San Francisco.  Bamboo Nation is a proud sponsor of the conference again this year and, with just a week remaining, I think it's time for me to start narrowing down my TechCon schedule.
