Google Wave’s Massive Potential for Business Users (Mashable)
Google Wave (Google Wave) is an innovative new way for people to communicate and collaborate. But as Gina Tripani, author of The Complete Guide To Google Wave, noted in her recent keynote at the recent Web 2.0 Expo in New York, Wave is designed for power users. Wave is hard. There are a lot of features, all bundled together, and it can be intimidating for anyone to just look at it and decide “this is a great project management tool” or “this is the way we’re going to manage our notes about the proposal.”

Magazine Predicts Ballmer Will Get Canned In 2010 (CRN)
Year 2010 will be the year when shareholders finally decide they've had enough of Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Newsweek said in its Predictions For 2010 report issued this week. Newsweek noted that Microsoft's stock has fallen almost 50 percent since Ballmer ascended to the CEO position nearly a decade ago and claimed that distractions like Windows Vista have kept Ballmer from moving into "every new big tech market of the past decade."

Microsoft's 2010 Task: Make the Cloud Clear (The Industry Standard)
For Microsoft, 2010 is a platform building and marketing year with no less than the future success of its cloud strategy hanging in the balance, according to observers. Experts say Microsoft's charge is not only to begin developing and delivering technology that will define its external, internal and hybrid cloud environments, but to clearly articulate to an overwhelming majority of corporate IT pros just how and why they want to live in a cloud.

10 Things Microsoft Did Right in 2009 (Beta News)
The year 2009 was pretty good to Microsoft, even as the weak economy ravaged sales. Microsoft actually did a few things right. The did wrong list will come tomorrow. For today, I present the list of 10 things Microsoft did right in 2009 -- in no order of importance. They're all important. Microsoft:

Chrome OS Promise for PCs Greeted with Skepticism (The Seattle Times)
Google and Microsoft have long competed for talent and the attention of Wall Street, but the two have never taken each other head on. Google's main business is search. Microsoft's is Windows and Office software. This year, Google signaled it is ready to take Microsoft on on its home turf with an operating system called Chrome OS. Microsoft is like Starbucks when McDonald's started selling espresso.

Configuring Business Connectivity Services (BCS) Search in SharePoint 2010 (UK SharePoint Team)
One of the feature in SharePoint 2010 which has received one of the bigger facelifts is Business Connectivity Services (BCS) – what we used to call Business Data Catalogue (BDC) in SharePoint 2007. This is a really powerful set of tools for connecting external data into SharePoint. If you are not familiar with BCS, I’d recommend the following sites to get up to speed (the rest of this post assumes you are familiar with BCS).

Volume Activation Tips and Tricks (Microsoft Office 2010 Engineering)
Hi again, I’m Ted Way, program manager for Office 2010 volume activation. Last time I posted to this blog, I talked about KMS and MAK as two activation methods for the enterprise. If you’re planning on deploying Office 2010, Windows (7, Vista, Server 2008 R2, Server 2008), or a combination of these, you’ll be happy to know that the activation technologies are essentially the same. The same KMS host running on Windows Server 2008 R2, volume editions of Windows 7, or Windows Server 2003 can activate both Windows and Office, for example.

My Top Three Favorite Things About SharePoint 2010 (Code Magazine)
SharePoint 2007 has been a very successful product for many reasons. Perhaps it is the good applicability of .NET to SharePoint. Maybe it is the fact that SharePoint gives you so much beyond plain vanilla ASP.NET, that it gets both techies and business users excited. Having been available for about three years now, there has been time for developers to discover a few rough edges to the product as well.

Migrating to SharePoint 2010 is Like… (Mauro Cardarelli)
One of my favorite roles is that of storyteller.  I like to talk about real-life experiences and, when appropriate, use an analogy to drive home a message.  With the upcoming release of SharePoint 2010, I have heard lots of questions about the new features as well as the potential challenges of upgrading.  I’ve been struggling with finding a good analogy that offers fair perspective.  Yesterday, my business partner, Scott Jamison, shared his opinion with me…

Getting to Know Groove And SharePoint Workspace 2010 with Jeroen Jansen (The MOSS Show)
Microsoft Office Groove 2007 is part of the Microsoft Office suite of tools and it provides for both online and offline synchronisation and collaboration amongst team members or between computers, both within and outside the organisation. In its new incarnation coming soon as Microsoft SharePoint Workspace 2010, it provides a stronger focus on collaboration and sharing around SharePoint libraries and lists. In this episode, we talk with previous Groove MVP and now Microsoft employee Jeroen Jansen about both the current and upcoming releases.
