IE9 RC Shockingly Fast, Firefox 4 Beta Stuck (ConceivablyTech)
The release of IE9 RC this past week was reason enough for us to have a quick look at the state of the current batch of beta web browsers. We knew that IE9 Beta was fast, but the RC adds a huge punch in hardware accelerated disciplines and distances its rivals far enough to win the overall performance crown. The most recent Beta of Firefox 4 drops in performance, suggesting that Mozilla has more work to do.
Did Nokia Take Microsoft to the Cleaners by Getting Billions in Windows Phone 7 Deal? (ComputerWorld)
Microsoft outbid Google to get Nokia to place its bet on Windows Phone 7, and that tab will run into the billions, says Nokia CEO Stephen Elop. In agreeing to pay such an astronomical sum, did Microsoft get taken to the cleaners --- and will it get its money worth? In speaking in Barcelona on Sunday, before the Mobile World Congress starts, Elop said the amount of money in marketing and services that Microsoft will pay is measured in the billions, not millions. The IDG News Service reports that Elop said: "In fact the value transferred to Nokia is measured in Bs not Ms."
Microsoft Bing Grabs Search Share from Google: ComScore (eWeek)
Microsoft's Bing search engine captured 13.1 percent market share, grabbing an entire percentage point from Google, which dropped from 66.6 percent through December to 65.6 percent through January. ComScore said Bing, whose share climbed from 12 percent in December, enjoyed its greatest single-month boost since its inception in June 2009, when the service started at 8 percent.
Five Telecommunications Trends for 2011 (Washington Post)
Just about everyone in the technology industry expects 2011 to be the year of the cloud, with a mass migration of data centers to hosted Web-based services, accessed over highly secure networks. As small- to medium-sized enterprises that already have made the switch are discovering, integration of voice and data into a single hosted communications platform provides access to new and emerging technologies and capabilities at lower investment and faster return on investment. Through cloud computing, businesses use one provider to manage their server, voice and data instead of three. The growing popularity of cloud-based services in 2011 will provide new opportunities for service providers to help fiscally cautious businesses extend their post-recession budgets and do more with less.
New Ways to Drive Top-Line Growth (Microsoft SQL Server Team Blog)
As the world emerges from 24 months of economic turmoil, "companies are looking for technology, innovation, and reinvention of their business models," says Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Office at Microsoft. In his position, Turner is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the company's worldwide sales, marketing, and services organization. He leads a global organization of over 43,000 employees, including field sales and marketing professionals who delivered over US$62 billion in revenue during fiscal 2010. Turner has this message for technology leaders who want to improve their standing in their organizations: "This is a great opportunity to step out in front and lead and become 'the Chief Innovation Officer' instead of the 'Chief Information Officer.' Setting Up Audit Logging in SharePoint 2010 (SharePointEduTech)
Today we had one of those situations where someone had changed a permission setting in SharePoint and we needed to find out whom, not for blame but to find out why. Now there are a lot of commercial products out there but what can you get out of the box for auditing? Well we realised that we had never turned on the auditing feature so how do you set it up and what do you get?
Feature ‘X’ for List Template '101' is Not Installed in this Farm (Mauro Cardarelli)
This is one of those “Here’s what I did to solve a problem; I’m not necessarily suggesting you try the same” posts… We were in the middle of what turned out to be a very complicated and difficult SPS2003 to (hosted) SharePoint Foundation migration. One of our biggest content sources was a document library with thousands of documents. The upgrade (double hop, content database attach) appeared to go cleanly in our development environment but when we attempted to import the document library into production (using the new list export functionality in SharePoint 2010) we got the following error: Feature '6e53dd27-98f2-4ae5-85a0-e9a8ef4aa6df' for list template '101' is not installed in this farm. The operation could not be completed.
Server Ribbon Architecture in SharePoint 2010 (SharePoint in Pictures)
Ribbon customizations, deployed as custom actions, in SharePoint 2010 can be categorized in two ways: filtered and unfiltered. A filtered custom action is one that uses the RegistrationId and RegistrationType attributes, for example to target a specific list. An unfiltered custom action is one that does not use these attributes. Ribbon custom actions are handled in different ways depending on the type. Both filtered and unfiltered custom actions are passed into the SPElementProvider internal class. SPElementProvider retrieves the Server ribbon XML from the custom action and sends it to the internal classes SPToolbar and SPUIProcessor depending on the type of custom action.
Date Validation in InfoPath Forms (SharePoint 2010, SharePoint, C-sharp, ASP.Net, JQuery, SQL Server Solutions)
In SharePoint InfoPath forms I need to implement one thing which was a bit tricky as it is not the default supported by InfoPath forms. The requirement is like this: The date fields on form should not allow date plus/minus 5 years from current server date. For this, so many people recommended to implement validation events in c#. But, my form contains 40+ date fields. That is not possible to implement events for each control. But, when I looked into all option there is an option called “Data Validation”. But, there is no direct option available to implement this requirement. After thought about sometime got wonderful ideas. Below is the implementation finally came up with.
