SharePoint The Reality Series: Laying the Foundation for Your Next SharePoint Deployment (KM World)
In our first in a series of SharePoint reality checks, we focus on the growing usage pains of a global SharePoint implementation. Those lessons apply to enterprise content management (ECM) systems as internal publishing platforms and as nest beds for collaboration through social networks, business process improvements and the repurposing of past success to optimize future efforts.

Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Features for Midsized Organizations (SearchCIO-Midmarket)
Microsoft's SharePoint 2010 is coming soon -- possibly this June. This new version of the well-known portal will offer enhanced social networking, a robust online option and improved search and application development features. However, for some midmarket companies, particularly those not currently using SharePoint, the 2010 version may be overkill.

SAP’s StreamWork Goes GA, Fills Gap In Google Wave? (CMS Wire)

Microsoft Office 2010 Interview (IT Brief)
Part 1: Microsoft Senior Product Manager and New Zealand expat, Geoff Anderson, talks to IT Brief about the upcoming launch of Office 2010. Anderson was recently in his homeland of New Zealand to visit Microsoft customers and partners ahead of May’s launch of Office 2010. IT Brief caught up with Anderson at Microsoft’s Auckland office to discuss the Office 2010 deployment and the R&D process behind the product.

Microsoft: Yes, Customers, We Will Have VM Support for Windows Azure (ZDNet)
A recent pilot-program announcement between Microsoft and Amazon — via which enterprise customers can cover their Amazon Web Services Windows Server instances with their existing Microsoft Enterprise licenses — has led to a number of Microsoft customer questions. Microsoft officials acknowledged these questions and provided some answers, on the company’s ISV Developer Community blog this week.

'We Aren't in Google Anymore' (CNN Money)
In the rich tradition of April Fool's Day pranks, Google has renamed itself after Topeka, Kan., accompanied by an absurd explanation from the company's chief. On Thursday morning, the company's home page was titled "Topeka" instead of "Google," although still in its distinctive blue-red-yellow-green font.

Around the Blogosphere
SharePoint 2010 and Kerberos (harbar.net)
This is the first in a series of posts about using Kerberos with SharePoint 2010. This one is an easy introduction to using Kerberos for authentication in Classic Mode. My good buddy Ted Pattison likes to joke around with me that Kerberos is dead, thanks to the “new” world of claims based identity. But it is a joke! :) Kerberos is far from dead, and in many scenarios it is still the best choice for Authentication, if not Authorization within SharePoint 2010. For those of you who are fellow security geeks, you will know of course, that Kerberos is indeed a “claims based” system in and of itself.

Make Informed Decisions On The Go With Excel Mobile 2010 (Microsoft Office 2010 Engineering)
In our previous post entitled “Mobility in Office 2010” we briefly described the office applications available on your phone that would keep you productive on the go. In this post we will deep dive into Excel Mobile 2010, which supports over 100 of the formula functions available in Microsoft Excel 2010. In addition, its support for creating and displaying all of the common chart types brings the visual experience on the phone closer to that on the desktop. In this post, we will see how Excel Mobile 2010 can be used to perform what-if analysis on the phone to solve business or money related personal problems. We will also have a sneak peek into new gesture support in Office Mobile 2010 for touch devices.

Branding SharePoint, Not so Fast! (Perspectives on SharePoint)
Often developers are given the task of deploying SharePoint and one of the first things they want to do is “not make it look like SharePoint”. I can understand they want to customize the look and feel, but hold on not so fast!

Data Sheet View Not Working? (SharePoint Blues)
No comments yet .The data sheet view in SharePoint is a useful tool for quickly editing several list items. It exists also in SharePoint 2010. When using the browser of the SharePoint server, the data sheet view does not usually load, even though it works fine on the client workstations.

The Importance of (Remembering to Set Up) Alerts in SharePoint (SharePoint Blank)
I think I might need to set up an alert to remind me to set up alerts... I've written in the past about the usefulness of SharePoint alerts, and I've used alerts to great effect in the past, but here's the thing: an alert only works if you remember to set one up.  I know, pretty obvious, right?
