Microsoft Needs to Break Its Windows Addiction for Tablets (eWeek)
The news out of this week's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona illustrated, for the nth time, just how quickly the tablet market is evolving into something considerable--and it's evolving quickly. Within the next few quarters, we can expect tablets powered by quad-core processors and running Android 3.0, competing head-to-head against next-generation devices from Apple and Hewlett-Packard.

Microsoft and Nokia – Better for Everyone (ZDNet)
With all the negative buzz floating around about Microsoft & Nokia, it’s hard to figure out what the benefits might be, not just to the companies themselves, but the consumer and enterprise markets, as well as the mobile industry in general. Looking down the road here’s how things could shape up if everything works out for the Nokia and Microsoft partnership.

Enterprise Mobility: Microsoft, Nokia Partnership Is a Major Blunder: 10 Reasons Why (eWeek)
Microsoft and Nokia have formed an historic partnership that will see Nokia phones running Windows Phone and ditching the Symbian operating system. Admittedly, it isn't much of a surprise, since rumors have been swirling about that possibility for months. But it is an important decision on the part of both companies that could have a real and meaningful impact on their businesses and the entire mobile industry. But before the folks over at Microsoft and Nokia try to claim that the relationship between the companies will be nothing but good, it's important to pause and closely evaluate this partnership. Two major companies will be working together in a way that they never have before. Although the decision came down to expected growth and profit potential, it could eventually end quite badly for both parties. Read on to find out why the marriage between Microsoft and Nokia might seem like a good deal at first, but will likely prove to be a serious blunder for just about every stakeholder.

Bing's Toolbar Gets Facebook, Face-lift (CNET)
Microsoft has cooked up a new version of its Bing software toolbar that the company thinks can change the minds of toolbar haters. "I know what you're saying to yourself--'really, a tool bar?'" Bing Director Stefan Weitz joked to me in an interview last week. Weitz mused that when he had first heard the pitch about it, his first response had been "are we doing dial-up too?" But Weitz was pleasantly surprised with the results of the new version of the software, and so were the testers who tried it during the new version's development. "People--when they saw what we built--even if they said they hated toolbars (myself being one of them) said 'hey this is actually remarkably useful.'"

Myths About Private Clouds May Shortchange Your Organization (SearchCIO-Midmarket)
Private clouds are sort of an artificial phenomenon; private clouds is just a term describing corporate IT for the past 20 years. It's a hype machine right now, and it's time to put some Weed B Gon on the tangled underbrush of misinformation. With private clouds, IT departments can become essentially mini-service providers for their own internal corporate customers, offering a distributed platform upon which internal applications can be built, run and scaled. Developers and departments still get the benefits of scale-out capacity, machine-level transparency and fault tolerance without entrusting a separate party with control over how that infrastructure is run or over the data stored within. Private clouds are all about virtualization and distributed computing -- spreading the work over many virtualized machines within a network of fault-tolerant hosts.

Revamped Business Intelligence Scenario Hub on TechNet (To the SharePoint)
The Microsoft Business Intelligence Center (http://technet.microsoft.com/bi) on TechNet has just been revamped. It is now a content hub featuring six end-to-end scenarios that highlight cross-product integrations for BI solutions. What makes this new hub unique is that it is a pilot for the new five-bucket lifecycle that TechNet is adopting, based around the Microsoft Operations Framework 4.0. This project was a partnership between TechNet and the content publishing teams for IT professionals and end users that are focused on SharePoint 2010 Products, SQL Server, and other products and technologies of the Microsoft BI stack.

Editing Office Documents from SharePoint 2010 Through TMG (SharePointEduTech)
We are experiencing a problem with TMG and SharePoint 2010. This issue is also experienced at another network running SP2010 through TMG. Below is a question I posted on SharePointOverflow, but sadly no answer has arrived. “We currently surface a SharePoint 2010 site through TMG. We have office web apps installed and they allow documents to be viewed and edited without an issue. When the button is clicked to open in the client application we have three scenarios:

Drag & Drop Web Part Y-offset Problem (SharePoint Blues)
I’ve come across a bug in SharePoint 2010 with my custom master page that is based on minimal.master. In the edit mode, if I try to drag and drop web parts around, the element that is used to mark the drag position has a strange offset. Upon more investigation it appears that the JavaScript function that positions the marker with the class ‘ms-SPZoneIBar’ ignores the scroll position of the #s4-workspace div.
