New Office, SharePoint Limited to IT Pros (Microsoft Certified Professional)
Don't everyone rush the Microsoft Download Center all at once --  Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 are available to TechNet and MSDN subscribers only, for the time being. Nearly everyone else must wait until the official release in June.

Office 2010: What's Changed Since Beta (CNET)
Several members of Microsoft's Office team dropped by CNET on Tuesday to deliver the final version of Office 2010 and talk about the changes that the company made since the beta test version. To be clear, not a whole lot has changed in the version that was finalized earlier this month from the public beta version that has been downloaded some 7.5 million times. The final version of Office 2010, in its many flavors, will be made available to businesses on May 12 and hit store shelves for consumers in June.

Microsoft's Office Web Apps - Google Killing Not Included (Channel Register)
The most intriguing piece of an otherwise predictable Office 2010 - which volume customers can get as of Tuesday - is Office Web Apps. These are the first ever, in-browser versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote from Microsoft. They represent a significant break with the past for a suite that's been one of Microsoft's cash cows and resolutely stuck on the desktop, albeit with growing attachments to the server in recent years.

Corporate E-mail in the Cloud: Google vs. Microsoft (Computerworld)
E-mail is the third rail of enterprise IT operations. You can mess up elsewhere, but bring down people's e-mail and you'll start getting irate calls literally in seconds. Manesh Patel knows those risks well, but that didn't stop the senior vice president and CIO at Sanmina-SCI Corp. from stepping off the Microsoft Outlook/Exchange platform and moving the company's 16,000 users into Google's cloud -- thereby running the risk of interrupting users' e-mail, even if just temporarily, in the process. The cost savings were simply too good to pass up.

Windows Azure Guidance, Patterns and Practices (Softpedia)
While Microsoft continues to work on the first Windows Azure Architecture Guide, the company is making a variety of resources available, designed to help customers, partners and developers embrace its Cloud platform. An illustrative example in this regard is the patterns & practices Windows Azure Guidance site hosted on Microsoft CodePlex. The resources offered free of charge on the Redmond company’s open source project-hosting repository are set up to streamline development and design for applications targeting Windows Azure.

Microsoft Hits The Road To Pimp Windows 7, Office 2010 (PCWorld)
Sometimes it's lonely in IT. Your organization used to upgrade all the time--well, at least at regular intervals--but now it's a rare occurrence. Technology has moved on, but you're stuck in the 2000s, running Windows XP and maybe even Microsoft Office 2003. Redmond feels your pain, and it's taking a road trip to ignite change, upgrade the nation's Windows desktops and servers, and maybe sell some software in the process.

Can A Mobile Platform Survive A Reboot? (InformationWeek)
After a number of years of going through updates and upgrades, sometimes it appears best to just start fresh with an operating system, especially when it comes to mobile phones. Continued legacy support just holds the platform back. Leaving legacy code behind though means leaving legacy customers behind. Can mobile phone platforms afford to start from scratch?

Series - Building Your business on Microsoft Technologies (Part 0 – Roadmap) (Cornelius J. van Dyk's SharePoint Brain Dump)
Many people launch new businesses or expand small businesses to the point where IT starts to play a role.  It is at that precipice where the question about which software to use and build on becomes evident.  As happens in most companies, a software package that most closely does what is more urgently needed, is installed by someone and it starts to gain user traction.  This repeats over and over again until at some point, someone has to figure out how to untangle the spaghetti mess that resulted.

Scripting STSADM with PowerShell (SharePoint Blues)
For this article, I’m assuming at least a vague familiarity with PowerShell. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, there are plenty of resources on TechNet, and some great tutorials by our CTO, Jouni Heikniemi to get you started.

Microsoft Updates
Some pages fail to render properly after a large number of crawls in an Office SharePoint Server 2007 site (Microsoft Support)
After a large number of crawls in an Office SharePoint Server 2007 site, the total success count, error count and warning count numbers for a specific content source will be very large. This may cause an arithmetic overflow, and then it will cause the pages to fail to render properly. Specifically, the Crawl Log Administration pages and the Edit Content Source page are the affected ones. This issue is dependent on the number of items being crawled as well.
