Microsoft's new browser, Internet Explorer 9 (IE9), will not run on Windows XP, now or when the software eventually ships, the company confirmed Tuesday. The move makes Microsoft the first major browser developer to drop support for XP, the world's most popular operating system, in a future release.

Save Money and Boost Collaboration by Deploying Web Apps, Office 2010 (TechTarget)
Cloud computing seems to be on everyone's mind lately. But for small to midsized organizations, moving to the cloud isn't easy -- or is it? Organizations tend to deploy Web applications to enhance collaboration efforts within and without their internal network. In the upcoming release of Office 2010, Microsoft is including an added bonus for organizations of all sizes: Office Web Apps. The online versions of applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel might be a good way for small and medium-sized businesses to ease into cloud computing. While Web-based productivity suites are not new -- Google Apps and OpenOffice.org are similar offerings -- having the ability to use the familiar Microsoft Office applications online allows you to capitalize on existing end-user skills and vastly reduce your deployment and maintenance costs.

Windows 7 Adoption Survey: IT is Worrying Less, Deploying More (CIO)
A new survey of nearly 1,000 IT professionals conducted by Dimensional Research and sponsored by systems management vendor KACE (now owned by Dell), reveals a boost in enthusiasm for Windows 7 adoption at companies of various size and industry. Of the IT professionals surveyed, 87 percent now plan to deploy Windows 7. Also, in a break with conventional wisdom, almost half of respondents are not waiting for the release of Service Pack 1 to deploy Windows 7 to their corporate desktops and laptops.

Moving to the Cloud: Big Savings, but Plan Ahead (IDG)
Some might say that San Diego-based Amylin Pharmaceuticals was pushed into the cloud. The 23-year-old company's data center had been running at 100% capacity and IT executives feared inevitable performance problems, but the company was reluctant to build another site due to the poor economic climate.

Confusing Names of Commands in SharePoint 2010 (Wictor Wilén)
If you have been developing with SharePoint for the last few years you probably are very aware of the SPWeb and SPSite naming is a bit confusing. SPWeb is actually a site and SPSite is a site collection. It's always fun explaining this to new SharePoint developers... In SharePoint 2010 this naming convention confusion continues and now expands to the administration of SharePoint.
