SharePoint 2010 and the Mobile Experience (CMSWire)
When Microsoft launched SharePoint 2010 over a year ago, they promoted an improved mobile experience. This new mobile experience promised better connectivity through devices like phones. However, is it any better and can any organization realistically use what’s provided out of the box? The answer, for most firms, is no. Much like the rest of SharePoint however, the mobile components of SharePoint 2010 can provide a foundation. This foundation comes in varying forms. Organizations hoping to connect their mobile workforce to content and/or functionality in SharePoint will want to understand what is and is not mobile in 2010.
Break Through Barriers to SharePoint Success (Windows IT Pro)
One way to bullet-proof your career, as you’ve probably heard many times during the achingly slow economic recovery, is to make sure you understand your company’s core business processes. IT pros who can support business objectives with cost-effective, efficient IT strategies can directly affect a company’s profitability. One of the best examples of IT practices influencing—if not determining—a company’s success might be SharePoint deployment and management. No other Microsoft product promises so much to business leaders looking for innovative processes and to IT pros who support those business leaders as well as an army of end users. Businesses use SharePoint most commonly for document management and storage, team collaboration, and Web portal and intranet development—all of which are high-profile functions requiring high availability, ease of use, and tight security.
Why Microsoft Is Ahead in Enterprise Collaboration (Sys-con Media)
We saw a recent announcement about ‘Google Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office' with the following underlying features. Google Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office brings collaborative multi-person editing to the familiar Microsoft Office experience. You can share, backup, and simultaneously edit Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents with coworkers.
Can Microsoft Build Appliances? (Redmond Developer News)
Billy Hollis, my Visual Studio Live! colleague and fellow Microsoft Regional Director said recently, and I am paraphrasing, that the computing world, especially on the consumer side, has shifted from one of building hardware and software that makes things possible to do, to building products and technologies that make things easy to do. Billy crystallized things perfectly, as he often does. In this new world of "easy to do," Apple has done very well and Microsoft has struggled. In the old world, customers wanted a Swiss Army Knife, with the most gimmicks and gadgets possible. In the new world, people want elegantly cutlery. They may want cake cutters and utility knives too, but they don't want one device that works for all three tasks. People don't want tools, they want utensils. People don't want machines. They want appliances.
'Execudus' in Redmond: Top Microsoft Execs Get Out (RedmondMag)
When Microsoft Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie left the company, it sent shockwaves through the technology industry and rocked the Richter scale in Redmond. Bill Gates' heir-apparent walked away after just five years with Microsoft. Ozzie's departure was arguably the most devastating executive exit at Microsoft since Gates himself left full-time duties in 2008. But if one executive leaving a company can cause such a stir, what happens when many leave in fairly short order? How many departures, how much "brain drain," can one company endure in a short period of time? What are the long-term effects of such an executive exodus?
Gmail Outage: The Sky is Not Falling (ZDNet)
The blogosphere was buzzing Monday with news of Google’s Gmail outage. ZDNet’s Larry Dignan outlined backup options, while young Zack Whittaker could barely contain his glee that Microsoft wasn’t alone in hosing a major webmail product. And yet, despite the inconvenience, the sky simply isn’t falling. The cloud is alive and well and Gmail remains one heck of a safe place to store your email (and everything else for that matter).

I've touched on the term store a few times in posts this year. But as ever the best way to learn a new tool is to get a bit of practical experience. So I came across this little nugget this week when onsite with a client. Firstly a bit of background on the term store.
With SharePoint, It Depends (NothingButSharePoint)
For those new to SharePoint, it is important that you understand that there is no such thing as a homogenous SharePoint deployment. No two SharePoint environments are the same - sort of like a fingerprint. We all have fingerprints, and at a macro-level our fingertips all look similar, but as you zoom in close, you very quickly pick up the nuances that make each of them unique.
7 Steps to Successful Client Scorecards (C5 Insight)
Which clients should we focus more time on? Are there any clients that we should consider firing? How can we find new clients that look like our best current clients? Do we have clients that should be more profitable? These are the questions that many B2B firms are asking themselves as they think through how they should prioritize their client list. So read on for some of the how’s and why’s of establishing a client scoring system.
How to Configure Crawl for Anonymous SharePoint 2010 Site (SharePoint Blues)
Are You getting errors like described in Mikes blog? Well at least I did, and here is one way to fix it. First of all, you need to have a web application with only anonymous access enabled. You can have it extended to another zone, with windows authentication , to make it available for editing. Here is one guide how to make site anonymous. To disable view for form pages, guide for that in here.
