SharePoint Collaboration: If You Build It, Will They Come? (CMS Wire)
The number one reason I see out in the trenches for failed implementations of SharePoint as a collaboration platform isn’t picking the wrong technology or architecting it poorly — two things most organizations spend the lion’s share of their project time trying to avoid. Rather, it’s adopting the if we build it, they will come approach to SharePoint, i.e., give people something, anything, to use, and they’ll use it. After all, they have no dedicated tool now to use for collaboration, so whatever we give them will be better than nothing, right?
Is Business-centric Social Networking a Revolution -- or a Ruse? (Knowledge@Wharton)
Programs like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn have become a popular way for families and groups of friends (or groups of strangers) to share information and organize their lives. Now corporations are hoping they can tap into those capabilities as a way to improve employee productivity, collaboration and communication on the job -- and a long line of software vendors, such as Cisco, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, IBM and Salesforce.com, along with upstarts like Yammer, are hoping to position themselves as the platform to integrate social networking and business processes.
Microsoft Keeping Its Head in the Clouds (NetworkWorld)
Despite all evidence to the contrary, Microsoft still believes it can lead businesses to the cloud and that they'll want to follow. Microsoft, whose stock has been flat for so long that some have taken to calling it a "utility" stock, desperately needs to provide Wall Street a vision that shows the company has a future as big as its past. Although it has not seen mass adoption of its Office 365, Azure or even its freebie Office Live tools, it is still selling the cloud as its savior.
Internet Explorer 9 Final, Releasing Sooner Than You’d Think (Windows 7 News & Tips)
Microsoft often moves at the pace of an old dinosaur, but the Internet Explorer team has really stepped up the pace with Internet Explorer 9. Just a few weeks ago they unveiled the release candidate of the newest version of IE and now MSDNIndia is tweeting that the final is just about ready as well. Straight from their twitter account, MSDNIndia has alerted the world that Internet Explorer 9 will be released in final form on March 24th at Tech.Ed India 2011.
23 Intriguing iPad Apps for Microsoft Partners (Redmond Channel Partner)
Steve Jobs on Wednesday unveiled Apple's second-generation tablet, the iPad 2, with a next-generation processor, thinner design and two video cameras. When the device ships March 11, it will enter a market that Apple has made, with 15 million first-generation iPads sold in nine months. Whether you think iPads and tablets are business-class devices or not, the consumerization of IT is real and people are voting for iPad with their pocketbooks right now. Is there money in it for Microsoft partners? Short answer: There's incremental business in almost everything. A lot of developers and vendors have been putting together iPad apps that have fairly useful applications for the types of heterogeneous solutions Microsoft partners typically deliver. If you haven't yet run across the customer who wants to know how you can make the solution you're implementing at his or her company work on the boss' iPad, you probably will soon.
Apple's Jobs: The Tablet PC 'Crashed and Burned' (CNET)
Apple CEO Steve Jobs had some choice words today for the tablet PC, a relatively obscure PC product category that never caught on with consumers. What is the tablet PC exactly? While there's a long history of this product category and thus not a hard-and-fast definition, it's probably best exemplified today by hybrids like Hewlett-Packard's EliteBook 2570p (which starts at a whopping $1,599) or the Fujitsu Lifebook T900 Tablet PC (which starts at an even higher $1,899).

You are Probably NOT a SharePoint Configuration ‘Expert’ if… (A Case in SharePoint)
After reading Mark Rackley’s recent post, I found that while it was amusing, it was extremely helpful for me, being a consultant on the infrastructure side of SharePoint, as a reference when talking to developers well as great interview material. I struggled with the title to use for this post, but I went with Configuration Expert because titles such as Architect or Administrator can be somewhat ambiguous and broadly defined. I will be the second, after Mark, to say that I am not a SharePoint expert as I find that I learn new things specifically about SharePoint every day.
A Process to Showcase SharePoint’s Value to Your Organization - Part 3: Map SharePoint Usage to Your Business Process Map (EndUserSharePoint)
In our last article we examined how the Value Chain can help you see your company from a wider perspective and better understand the types of business processes (Core, Primary and Support) your company performs to add value. In this article, we will walk through creating a Process Map Diagram and how we will use the diagram to visualize SharePoint’s value to the company. Below is a very basic example of a process map diagram for the primary and support activities.

Records Management in SharePoint 2010 (Offline SharePoint)

SharePoint 2010 Lessons Learned, Part 5: An Image-uploading Caveat Regarding Anonymous Access, and Frustration Involving Modifying Font Styles (SharePoint Blank)
This may be the final entry in my little mini-series based on lessons learned while creating pages and content for the Sharing the Point (STP) site. It's definitely going to be the final post in the series prior to my leaving on Saturday for a barnstorming trip that will see me covering the Australia SharePoint Conference in Sydney on March 8 and 9, and then covering the Sharing the Point tour itself, with stops in Beijing, Manila, and Ho Chi Minh City over the following five days. I'll be blogging like crazy all the while, both here in Bamboo Nation (though not here in SharePoint Blank - as with all of my event coverage, those posts will appear in either the Bamboo Team Blog or the SharePoint 2010 blog), and on the STP site blog.
