Guest Blog by H3 Solutions Jason Hall - Mobile Entrée, Taking a Look Under the Hood
Published 06/04 courtesy of Bamboo Solutions CommunityMobile Entrée is installed as a SharePoint solution and is deployed as a series of features. You read the first article, you already know that. One thing we didn't cover is how remarkably easy Mobile Entrée is to manage. The solution installs 3 features:
- Mobile Entrée Management Farm Feature
Provides functionality within Central Administration to manage Licensing, Caching and HTTP Filters. This can all be accessed from the Application Management tab in Central Admin. - Mobile Entrée HTTP Modules Web Application Feature
Provides mobile device redirecting on a per web application basis. This uses the HTTP Filters defined in Mobile Entrée Management. - Mobile Entrée Base Site Feature
Provides the actual framework for mobile applications on a per-site basis. This will only be allowed to be activated if the HTTP Modules have been activated for the web application.
How does this make things simple you ask? For starters, you never have to monkey around in your web.config files trying to get the HTTP module to work correctly. Licensing is also very light-weight. Again, all being managed from Central Admin. Most notably; Mobile applications built upon the Mobile Entrée platform are built within features, allowing those custom apps to also fit nicely within the solution/feature architecture. The idea here is to standardize how mobile applications are developed and deployed so that maintenance for SharePoint Administrators is reduced.
The following is a video that covers these out-of-the-box features. For more information and to completely spoil the third post in this series, visit www.mobileentree.com.
