Microsoft has sold 90 million copies of Windows 7 since the operating system hit the market last October, according to the company's chief financial officer. That, Microsoft said, makes the software the fastest selling OS in the history of the PC industry. "We see continuing momentum in Windows 7 to date," said Microsoft CFO Peter Klein, who spoke Tuesday at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, & Telecom Conference in San Francisco.

Report: Microsoft Readies $1 Billion Investment For Windows Mobile (ChannelWeb)
Microsoft reportedly plans to invest $1 billion in research and development for its Windows Mobile program. Although there is speculation that the vendor might acquire Palm or other mobile handset manufacturers to help boost Microsoft's shrinking market share in the mobile segment, analyst Brendan Barnicle, of Pacific Crest Securities, says Microsoft is making plans for a major investment in Windows Mobile, according to Forbes.

Feds Weigh Expansion of Internet Monitoring (CNET)
Homeland Security and the National Security Agency may be taking a closer look at Internet communications in the future. The Department of Homeland Security's top cybersecurity official told CNET on Wednesday that the department may eventually extend its Einstein technology, which is designed to detect and prevent electronic attacks, to networks operated by the private sector. The technology was created for federal networks.

Ok, this is something that comes along once in a while. Problem: Site placed in a location the client doesn't like. While there are better ways (that preserve timestamps, etc.), they are complicated (STSADM) and time consuming (see here for more on STSADM Export/Import - http://blog.brainlitter.com/archive/2009/05/11/how-to-backup-and-restore-migrate-a-single-sub-site-of-a-SharePoint-site-collection-using-stsadm-%e2%80%93o-export-and-import.aspx).

While configuring the term store for a client I came across a “fairly” basic step that was left out during my initial configuration of the environment –>  Security permissions for the service applications.  See, although you might be able to view the managed service applications, you will not be able to complete any other tasks pertaining to that specific service.

Remote BLOB Storage Does Not Save Your SharePoint (SharePoint Blues)
SharePoint stores all portal content in content databases. This means that large documents and other binary large objects (BLOBs) quickly push the databases towards the recommended 100GB maximum size limit. Item versioning settings make this even worse, as every minor or major version creates a new binary copy of the document into the database.

Bamboo Giddy Ups into Dallas for SharePoint TechFest (The Bamboo Team Blog)
Yesterday marked our second trip to the InfoMart in Dallas, TX to participate in the annual SharePoint TechFest conference.  As promised, TekFocus and RBA Consulting delivered on their promise that this year's event would be even bigger and better than last year's.  The day kicked off with a keynote from Molly McCarthy, Office Business Value Senior Product Manager at Microsoft, and Justin Chandoo, Product Manager at Microsoft.  Molly spends most of her time meeting with customers, striving to understand their business needs, and working with them to use Microsoft Information Worker solutions to drive their business.  Justin's area of focus is in Information Worker (IW) Enterprise Solutions centered on SharePoint and Office. Molly and Justin led the discussion around getting ready for SharePoint 2010.  The TechFest audience got a taste of what's to come with this exciting release with a product demonstration.  Following the keynote, participants had the ability to choose sessions based on six available tracks: ECM, Collaboration, Composites, Search, BI, or Development.  The one-day event started bright and early at 8am and ended at 6pm with a Conference Happy Hour.
