SharePoint and Paper Belong Together (AIIM)
In case you haven't heard ... SharePoint is a platform to manage information. SharePoint doesn't care if this information was "born digital" or created in the traditional paper based world. When that information is “born” in a paper based format SharePoint needs a little help to get the information from “Paper to Digital” format. This is where partners come in. Paper has been around for over 5000 years and will still be with us for a while. Paper is not the Enemy and Paper does have a Future. The trick is to manage paper wisely, to insure the right paper is kept and the paper that is not needed is discarded or digitized.
Collaboration Trends for 2012: Part Two (ComputerWorld)
Last month I discussed two trends that I see having an impact on enterprise collaboration in 2012. I discussed how the rise in big data and arrival of social networks in the enterprise will increase the adoption of collaboration platforms this year. In this final post of my 2012 predictions, I'll touch on the impact that cloud computing is having on collaboration (and vice versa), as well as what it means for the enterprise.
Microsoft Boosts Its Lowest-tier Office 365 Plan with New Features (TheNextWeb)
Office 365, Microsoft’s ‘cloud’ productivity suite has been something of a hit for the company, selling strongly to small businesses, and rejuvenating the larger Office brand just as rival products from companies such as Google were gain speed. The product has two main plan varieties, one for enterprise customers, and one for ‘kiosk’ employees, those who Microsoft describes as “deskless’ workers, shift workers or retail store employees who use shared PCs.” Today Microsoft rolled out a number of improvements to the kiosk plan, boosting its capabilities.
Oracle Developers Playing in the Microsoft Sandbox? Indeed. (Redmond Developer News)
As Microsoft continues to make news about opening up its developer technologies (the latest being opening its Windows Azure cloud platform to Linux servers), it's easy to forget how the process works both ways. Witness last week's under-the-radar release by Oracle of the production data provider "for Entity Framework and LINQ developers." This lets Oracle developers do all their work in Visual Studio for certain projects while taking advantage of almost all the latest Microsoft database APIs.
The Cloud Market in 2012: Through the Eyes of Experts (SearchCloudComputing)
SearchCloudComputing.com staff asked our contributors to share their thoughts on the year ahead. In this round-up, we asked our cloud experts these two questions: 1.What changes can we expect in the cloud computing market in 2012? 2.Which cloud vendors will be the big winners of 2012? So now that we’ve swept up all the glitter and confetti, put away the noisemakers and broken most of our New Year’s resolutions, let’s take a look at what possible ups and downs lie ahead for the cloud computing industry.
Will Windows 8 Tablets Make IT Pros Hate Microsoft? (Ghacks)
As we approach the beta of Windows 8 I’ve been thinking more about Windows tablets, and on our sister site Windows8News I’ve today written an article about the pros and cons of Windows on ARM. One of these issues will be how successful the platform is overall. In a large part this will rest on the success of the new Windows app store and Metro apps for PCs and tablets. Microsoft got off to a good start last September at their BUILD conference in getting software developers excited about Metro, but it’s all been very quiet since and there’s been no word on how many developers are actively developing, or even thinking of developing, new metro apps.
Microsoft at CES 2012: Nothing to See Here? (CNET)
No doubt, there will be some pizzazz to tonight's keynote address from CEO Steve Ballmer. The opening keynote address at the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow is a marketing opportunity like few others. The company will showcase its key consumer products, demonstrating them with some flair and perhaps a celebrity or two.

SharePoint 2010 + Windows Azure - Why You Should Care & the Development Story (Andrew Connell)
Historically SharePoint has been very popular with large organizations because they can shoulder the financial and resource requirements required to deploy SharePoint. However one place where SharePoint hasn't grown as fast is in the small and medium side business (SMB) area. The reason for this is most likely the cost and resource requirements (not just hardware, but people as well) necessary to deploy and maintain it. With Office 365, many of these barriers have been removed and therefore it represents a new era and opportunity to grow the SharePoint customer base. Therefore this is an area you should be very aware of and should learn how you can best leverage and exploit this new and untapped market of possible SharePoint customers!
The Big Dummies Guide to Building a SharePoint Internet Site (Fear and Loathing)

Submitting a Document Set to a SharePoint 2010 Repository in Workflow (C5 Insight)
Every so often while working in SharePoint, you encounter a feature that has almost no documentation or you can’t find anyone with a similar issue. This happened to me when I was trying to configure a workflow to move a document set to a Records Center. After I got this to work, I wanted to try and save others the grief and frustration that I experienced. If “Unknownerror” means anything to you, this post is for you.
