Is There A Business Case For Using SharePoint as an Enterprise CMS? (CMSWire)
Over the past 12 months alone, there have been two reports that suggest that SharePoint is being widely adopted across the enterprise and that it is being used in many cases as an enterprise content management system. A recent paper from Microsoft makes the business case for these two trends.

Switching to Office 365’s Outlook Web App (PC Pro)
As part of an IT roll-out in the office the entire PC Pro team was moved over to Office 365 last week. For the most part it meant no change at all. After a quick call to IT the morning after the transition to get some account details adjusted (I’d had no email since 9pm the previous day), I was able to carry on working, using my standard desktop installation of Office 2010, including Outlook, just as normal. That’s no surprise. After all, Office 365 principally represents a change in the way businesses purchase and manage licenses for Microsoft Office software. From a user perspective, the desktop software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook – stays the same.

The Cloud: Reinventing Enterprise Collaboration (White Paper) (InfoWorld)
Collaboration and content sharing are not, of course, new concepts. But cloud computing has changed the nature of collaboration, content sharing, document storage and project management to enable more efficient, faster-acting and cost-effective enterprises. According to a new study by IDG Research, the vast majority of knowledge workers (86%) placed a very high level of importance on collaborating with internal coworkers and external stakeholders, and having access to the most up-to-date corporate information. Read how organizations are realizing massive productivity gains by transitioning their content management solutions to cloud-based models.

Windows 8 Will Be a Winner: 10 Reasons Why (eWeek)
The anticipation surrounding Microsoft's upcoming launch of Windows 8 is running high. The company's operating system is easily the biggest departure from earlier versions Microsoft has ever launched, and it could very well be the answer to Apple's iPad and Android-based tablets in the mobile market. Still, there are many people in the industry who aren't sure if Windows 8 will have what it takes to be successful. The operating system is, as mentioned, substantially different from preceding versions of the software, and considering IT budgets are still tight, there's a chance companies won't be ready to adopt the new operating system when it launches later this year. To make matters worse, Mac OS X is selling extremely well, prompting many consumers to turn their backs on Microsoft.

Five Ways Microsoft Can Rescue Windows Phone (Register)
Windows Phone might be the most impressive bit of software Microsoft has produced - but it isn't setting the world on fire. The iPhone and Android go from strength to strength - the latter proliferating so widely even Google doesn't know how many Android systems are out there. (It can't count the Chinese forks which don't use any Google services and don't phone home.) This discrepancy puzzles people. Reviewers like WinPho a lot - it's clean, fast, functional and forward-looking. The social media integration is very clever. Operators have a soft spot for Nokia and WP7 too, because - if for no other reason - they dislike and distrust Google and Apple even more. So what's the problem?

Cagefight! Microsoft and Google Trade Jabs Over Privacy Policies, Ads (Seattle Times)
Microsoft and Google are duking it out in public over Google's recent changes to its privacy policy. Microsoft this week is placing ads in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today, hoping to attract users wary of Google's recent changes to its privacy policies and search methods, into trying Microsoft products such as Bing, Hotmail, Office 365 and Internet Explorer.

Building Trust as You Roll Out SharePoint (21apps)
One of the big challenges with rolling out anything that changes the way people work is getting people to accept it and make the transition.  This post isn’t looking at the wider subject of user adoption strategies but covers a great visual technique that I used recently to help build trust within a team, it’s also a technique that I will use more to help users to deal with the fears of change and the hopes that the change will bring.

Rogue Users (AIIM)
Working in a small company makes it hard to blog about the things people do. You have to be careful when complementing people, so you don’t steer too much credit in any one direction, and you generally have to avoid complaining about people. The exception is when the person in question is also the author of the blog, and then the season is open. I made some serious errors a year ago, and I am here to complain about me. My mistake was going off-grid as it were, working with content outside of SharePoint and leaving my future self in a bind.

Hide SP 2010 Page Layout Metadata - WebControls (SharePoint Branding & Design)
In this post I will walk you through the process of adding in “Hidden” metadata to your page layouts so that they are only visible when editing the page. For example if you want to create a news article with categories, start date, end date, keywords, and other metadata that might not be relevant to the consumer then instead of forcing your content authors to create content in the edit mode and then force them to update metadata by editing the page properties why not have them all on the page. This allows for a single page authoring experience.

Who are the SharePoint End Users? (Asif's Blog)
Who are the end users in the SharePoint world? This answer differs from time to time when I poll the attendees in my conference sessions and classes. Here are the three choices for you: 1.Readers, Members; 2.Readers, Members, Subsite Owners; 3.Readers, Members, Subsite Owners, Site Collection Administrators.

Around Bamboo Nation
Guest Blog by Dan Holme: SharePoint Perspectives South of the Equator (The Bamboo Team Blog)
Greetings, all! I am writing this column from 35,000 feet, on a plane to Patagonia, Chile. I am looking down at a ridiculously beautiful and dramatic landscape of mountains, glaciers, sharp valleys, turquoise glacial lakes, and cone shaped volcanoes... So excuse me for any typos I make while typing and looking out of the window at the same time! We're on our way to Punta Arenas, Chile, which is our jumping off point for the final stop on the Sharing The Point South America tour: Antarctica. Tomorrow, I am privileged and lucky enough to head to this remote end of the planet, bringing along the SharePoint message to the researchers, information workers, and penguins of the white continent.

We would like to identify an organization that can assist us with day-to-day Administration functions for SharePoint 2010. The support person must be familiar with the basic functions of SharePoint 2010 and be able to quickly setup lists, change views of lists, setup site pages, and use SharePoint Designer where needed. The person DOES NOT need to be a SharePoint programmer. Any custom programming will be done under a separate job/contract.

Activating SharePoint 2010 Sandboxed Solutions by Using Code (Wrox) (MSDN)
The sandboxed solution is a new feature in SharePoint 2010 that enables developers to create SharePoint 2010 functionality that runs in a separate memory space called a "sandbox." The code in the solution runs in the sandbox, and any problems in the code remain isolated and do not cause the SharePoint web application in which it is running to stop responding. In previous versions of SharePoint, developers had to add their assemblies to the global assembly cache (GAC) or to the in folder of the SharePoint virtual directory.
