Google Wave - A Developer's Eye View (The Register)
Last week, Google announced Wave, a new communication tool presumptuously described as "e-mail, if it were invented today." Now, it's a coming of age for technology companies to write a collaboration tool, put a good spit-shine demo on it, and call it a revolution. The idea is nothing new. In the 80s, we called it Lotus Notes. As of recent, we called it Microsoft SharePoint. Today, I guess, it's Google Wave.

Mobile Entrée Brings Microsoft SharePoint to the SmartPhone (PR Web)
Today, H3 Solutions announced the availability of Mobile Entrée, the first integrated SharePoint framework for mobile applications. Designed to work across all major SmartPhone platforms (currently Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and iPhone), Mobile Entrée significantly enhances the value of SharePoint and solves the complexities of mobile application development.

Integrating SharePoint Social Networking with IBM Rational Team Concert (CMS Wire)
IBM and Microsoft will be forever entwined if Mainsoft has anything to do with it. The provider of Java EE-Microsoft SharePoint integration software is constantly coming out with new ways to integrate SharePoint functionality with IBM solutions.

Microsoft 'Extends' Windows: What Does that Mean? (Beta News)
This morning in What's Now | What's Next, we reported on the early word from a keynote address to the Computex trade show in Taiwan, from Microsoft Corporate Vice President Steven Guggenheimer. What might have been big news there was already leaked in advance: Windows 7 will be available to the public October 22. The #2 story was supposed to have been the company casting its net wider, making Windows available on a broader range of devices.

Cisco Attacks HP/Microsoft Unified Communications Alliance (ARN)
The networking giant's collaboration spokesperson hits out against HP and Microsoft's plans to establish a competitive unified communication platform during the Cisco Partner Summit.

Google's Android Will Run Laptops (The Seattle Times)
Google's free mobile-phone operating system will begin running computers next quarter, entering a market dominated by Microsoft's Windows and deepening the rivalry between the two companies. Acer, the world's second-largest laptop maker, will release a low-cost notebook featuring Android in the third quarter, Jim Wong, head of information-technology products at the Taipei, Taiwan-based company, said Tuesday.

Microsoft Wants Gadgets to Run Windows (The New York Times)
Microsoft is not willing to cede the laundry room to Google. I wrote last week about how Google’s Android may be the leading candidate to be the operating system that will drive Internet-connected devices of all sorts, including, according to Sehat Sutardja, the chief executive of the Marvell Technology Group, washing machines.

Microsoft Tries to Force You to Use Bing (Computer World)
Microsoft really knows marketing. But its latest (unintentional) attempt to promote the new search engine Bing may have gone over the line. According to reports, a glitch in Internet Explorer 6 forced Bing onto users as the default search engine. Even when users manually altered their preferences, Bing emerged once again.

Geneva Beta 2 Support for MOSS 2007 (edhild's WebLog)
Since a lot of the customers I serve are government agencies, there has always been a lot of interest in ADFS with SharePoint. But there has always been lots of issues... ADFS being targeted to only federating Active Directory, what about Office client integration, SAML protocol support, etc... Well there is something new on the horizon and last month at Tech Ed there was some interesting announcements that impact the SharePoint world.

MOSS 2007 – Capture Direct View Clicks (Liam Cleary)
If like me you have worked on a mix of intranet, extranet and internet you will have no doubt been asked about capturing direct file clicks. So an example would be you wish to know the top PDF document that is being clicked on your public facing site. Out of the box SharePoint does its best with the usage analysis framework but does not capture everything that you may need. In this post I will show you how to use custom code to capture specific file type links and log them to a list. Firstly let's create the list to store the values, to do this I am going to create a content type and then associate this with a custom list.

Multiple Pie Charts in a WSS Dashboard (End User SharePoint)
From the feedback I received on my previous posts, I worked to develop a new jQuery script to present charts on SharePoint. It can be considered a major evolution of my first rudimentary pie charts versions because:

Importing a STSADM Export Package from a MOSS Farm to a WSS Farm (Made 4 the .Net)
So I’ve been doing some work in a MOSS Farm Development VM for a release to a WSS Farm. I created a Site Collection using the Collaboration Team Site Definition thinking it wouldn’t use any of the MOSS Features (as you may know that MOSS is a superset of WSS). When I did an STSADM –o export from my MOSS Farm and then did an stsadm –o import into my WSS Farm I got the following errors:

Wrapping Your Head Around the SharePoint Beast: The Importance of the SharePoint Community (The SharePoint Hillbilly)
Are you currently implementing SharePoint?  Have you implemented SharePoint and now you are pulling your hair out?  Did you hire someone to stand up your farm, now they are gone, and you have no clue what to do?  Are you generally lost and cursing SharePoint with every other breath?  Does your boss not get SharePoint?  Are you a boss and don’t get it?  Are you looking at spending thousands of dollars on training just to be able to use SharePoint?  If you are Jerry Seinfeld, is SharePoint your Newman?

Guest Blog by H3 Solutions' Jason Hall - So, Who Wants to Develop Mobile Apps for SharePoint? (The Bamboo Team Blog)
If your answer is, "ME!" than you need to take a serious look at how Mobile Entrée can help you achieve just that. This is the first in a series of posts that will help you get acquainted with this fantastic new product. Mobile Entrée is server-side software that installs as a SharePoint solution and provides a framework to build mobile-enabled SharePoint features. This platform makes it remarkably simple to provide mobile access, something that is traditionally very complex, to SharePoint-based applications and data.

Microsoft Updates
When you install the 2007 Microsoft Office servers Service Pack 2, the product expiration date is activated incorrectly (KBAlertz - Microsoft Knowledge Base Article)
During the installation of the 2007 Microsoft Office servers Service Pack 2, a product expiration date is activated incorrectly. This means that any of the products that are listed in the "Applies to" section will expire 180 days after Service Pack 2 is deployed, as if it were a trial installation. The activation of the expiration date will not affect the regular function of these products until the expiration date passes, 180 days after Service Pack 2 is deployed. If the product expires, it will not affect data, configuration, or application code. However, it will make the Office Server product inaccessible for end-users.

View and Update a SharePoint Calendar (Microsoft Office Outlook)
There are several ways to view and update a calendar on a SharePoint site by using Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. You can update your SharePoint calendar by using Outlook if your calendar is on a site that is running Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. If you have Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, you can view your SharePoint calendar in Outlook and view it side-by-side with your Outlook calendars, but you can't update it by using Office Outlook 2007. If you are not sure which version of the SharePoint product or technology is running on the server, ask the server administrator.

Manage Site Templates (Windows SharePoint Services)
Members of the Administrator and Web Designer site groups can customize a site and save the customized site as a site template, so that other users in the site collection can create similar sites later. Administrators of a site collection can also import a site template created by another user or software vendor and add the new template to the available site templates in the site collection.

Search for People (Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS))
You can search for people in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 from the Search Center site. You can find people by name, or by searching on their user profile values.

Introduction to Workflows (Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer)
Across your enterprise, teams use Microsoft SharePoint sites to collaborate on documents and share information. You want to build a SharePoint application that improves team productivity and efficiency, but you don’t want to write code. Where do you start?
