Solid Strategy is Key to SharePoint Success (Windows IT Pro)
Everyone has heard the story about the blind men and the elephant: one touches the trunk, one grabs the tail, and another feels the side of the giant pachyderm. All three have a different experience, and all three are technically correct. An elephant is all the things they individually experienced—and more. Such is the case with SharePoint, arguably one of the most versatile and multi-functional platforms to ever emerge from Microsoft. SharePoint can (and is) accurately described as a collaboration tool, a document repository, a content management system, and a vehicle for developing and maintaining internal and externally-facing websites. It’s also a social media tool, with blogs, forums, and other community-friendly features.

IE Wins, Firefox Loses as Internet Population Shifts (NetworkWorld)
Updated information about the population of Internet users in China and other countries has taken a bite out of Firefox's global market share, according to data from analytics firm Net Applications. Net Applications weights its browser share reports based on the CIA's data on Internet usage by country. Last month, the CIA reported a large increase in the global percentage of Chinese users (now at 389 million) and a decrease in the percentage of users from the U.S., U.K, Germany, France and other developed countries. Those shifts in turn affected global browser share numbers from Net Applications, which says Firefox's share was previously "over-reported."

Why Windows Embedded Compact 7 Should be Microsoft’s Anti-iPad Strategy (MobileBeat)
It’s just like Microsoft to have a perfectly good tablet solution and do nothing with it. The company yesterday released Windows Embedded Compact 7 — the successor to Windows CE for consumer electronics — to the public as a free 180-day trial. Microsoft says that it will be used to power devices like phones (Windows Phone 7 is based on Windows CE), GPS units, and in-car computers. It could also potentially be used for tablets in the future, but Microsoft has shown little interest in that possibility so far.

Hands-on: Google Cloud Connect for Office Not Ready for Prime Time (Ars Technica)
Google Docs, the online suite of productivity applications, has long offered collaborative, cloud-based sharing and editing of office-type documents. A new add-in for Microsoft Office, Cloud Connect, now extends the reach of that online offering to the world of traditional desktop applications. The add-in, for Office 2003, 2007, and 2010 (both 32- and 64-bit versions) enables cloud syncing and collaborative editing of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. In doing this, it is competing head-on with Microsoft's own collaboration features found in Office 2010, SkyDrive, and SharePoint. Microsoft has promoted collaborative editing as one of the major features of Office 2010, and both companies clearly think that this model of concurrent editing is going to become increasingly common. We took a look at Google's plug-in against Office 2010's native collaboration features to see if it's all it's cracked up to be.

5 Reasons Why CIOs Can't Ignore Consumerization of IT (CIO)
The last 24 months have brought an explosion of new devices, web applications, and social media platforms. With every new product release or social network launch, CIOs are getting pressure from their employees, including senior executives, to open the corporate network to consumer devices and allow access to more of the Web. This migration of consumer devices like smartphones and tablets into enterprise computing is making CIOs very nervous.

SharePoint Conferences You Should Attend (Asif's Blog)
“Which SharePoint Conference should I attend?”. I get this question so many times that I thought this definitely deserves a blog post. As part of my job, I continue to visit and present at numerous conferences every year. While I don’t think that this makes me an expert at SharePoint conferences, I do have a perspective that I can share with folks who are looking to evaluate the choices out there.

SharePoint 2010, the iPad 2, and Your Enterprise (The SharePoint Blog)
Now I understand that SharePoint is a Microsoft product, and I understand that the iPad is not the natural home for our favorite enterprise collaboration CMS platform, but bear with me. I'm going to write about the iPad and it will all make sense. You see I keep seeing iPads in the businesses I visit to talk about SharePoint. They are creeping into meetings (though when it became OK to tap away on one mid meeting, when a phone is clearly rude, if beyond me) and increasingly they are creeping into requirements documents as well: "The system will be accessible from the CEOs iPad because it's his new toy"

Susan Lennon and Chris Bortlik on Sandbox Solutions in SharePoint 2010 (SharePointLand)
One of the most highly anticipated features of the SharePoint 2010 platform was the inclusion of the new Sandbox Solutions. I was able to sit and talk with Susan Lennon at SharePoint Saturday Virginia Beach on the topic, and also interrupted a class at SharePoint Saturday Hartford to speak with Chris Bortlik, adding their videos to the series ‘The One Thing You Need to Know About SharePoint 2010.’

The SharePoint Maturity Model - Recording Available (EndUserSharePoint)
Today's online presentation of the SharePoint Maturity Model by Sadie Van Buren was a huge success. With over 80 people in attendance, we walked through the model in detail, describing how to measure the maturity of your SharePoint implementation. For those who couldn't attend, or those that did but want to view it again, you can download the presentation. It's in a zip file, so download and extract to your hard drive. Please leave Sadie a note below after you have viewed it. The check sheet she uses is available for download on her site and the slide deck is posted on SlideShare.net.

Feature Updates for BambooCRM and BambooSupport (The Bamboo Team Blog)
After a successful first month post-launch, the Bamboo Cloud group has made some great enhancements and updates to the current BambooCRM and BambooSupport solutions based on your feedback.  We think you're really going to like them! We begin with updates applicable to both BambooCRM and BambooSupport products. We have made the time zone preferences customizable to company and/or team member, so time zones can set be for either the company location or each team member's current location. This enables better issue and case tracking, and helps to streamline sales projections and forecasting.
